Let me finish tonight with our lively interchange with Rush Limbaugh.
As I said earlier in the show, I think this a dazzling question: who are these elected politicians who do not fear this man on the radio?
We came up with this idea. It can't go on forever, can it?
We asked all the Republican officials here in Washington. There are hundreds of them, for just one of them to step forward and say that he or she disagrees with Rush on anything. Anything.
We got this idea when a U.S. congressman from Georgia had to tip-toe backward on something he'd said. He'd actually dared to defend the Republican leadership against Rush's charges. But not for long. After a few hours of withering nervousness, the Congressman decided that it was the better part of valor to tell Rush that he was sorry for what he'd done.
How can this happen in a democracy?
But listen up. It continued like this.
I thought for sure it might stop, this kow-towing to the radio man down in Florida, when Rush went so far as to back BP in the oil mess. He went out there and took "BP's" side, attacking the President for being so unpleasant with the big oil company by getting it to set aside $20 billion for the people whose lived have been sunk by the oil spill.
Well, not even that got not a single congressperson to step up and say, "this is where I get off, where I cut Limbaugh loose."
When we had the congressman from Louisiana on, not even "he" would side with his party's leadership and take on Rush. While saying Rush didn't speak for him, that he spoke for himself, he still would not complete the thought and say, darn it, Rush is wrong, couldn't do it.
Perhaps he "can't" do it. Maybe no Republican can do it, the way things are today.
We continue to look for that lonely Republican to stand up against big, bad BP and win one for the folks who are really getting messed with, the folks the chairman of BP calls the "small people."

Hey Goofball...no one cares about your self described high drama charge that Limbaigh runs the GOP or your stupid challenge...that's why no one has responded...once again you are a lightweight in the media.
You exaggerate your importance as a "journalist"...and if I recall from a past interview...even the wacked out lib Maher flake thinks you are a nutcase.
If you didn't have Limbaugh, Palin, Cheney, and yes "W" you would have nothing to say on any given day.
Anxious to hear you dribble the Obama talking points tomorrow.
Ditto!
Chris: You forget the big point. The Republicans of today are not the same Republicans you and I grew up with. There was a time when you said Republican you were talking about the upper-crust of society, the country club sector. Now the new Republican is the least educated, low performing, some middle/a lot of lower class people from the south; as evidence, by the people who follow Sarah Palin. Rush proves to be their money ticket and mouth piece. He says publicly what they cannot. They think it and Rush says it. To the rest of the country Rush proves to be that irritating side show that blocks the parking lot and plays all of the loud music to get attention. He is what he is. The Republicans need him for the money. He is a cash cow for fund raising. They need him for the mouth. He is not a public official and can say anything. So Chris, it would be political suicide to get rid of or even stand up to him. Like it or not he is not moving to Costa Rica or any place else. I would be nice though!
Good post, except you have one thing backward. You said "They think it and Rush says it" and it's more like "Rush says it and they think it."
And Chris will never find an elected Republican who will come on and disagree with Rush because Rush has the whole GOP by the tail and he knows it. He's been the unofficial leader since '94. A few bad words from him on his radio show will either flood their office with calls or worse, end their career.
You say Republicans are the least educated? What a joke! Before writing something so ridiculous use the spell checker, and then go back through 6th grade grammar to make sure what you're typing makes sense to all those educated (hahaha) liberals. I know that the English language is starting to diminish in this country but you can at lest attempt it when writing on a public forum... Oh, by the way, Sarah Palin is from Alaska... far from the south.
Are you an Idiot! If your only attack is his typing or supposed grammer you have not made a point...The facts are that the Republican party has changed and for the worse. The voting public, people who read the news and keep up with current events not just sound bites, know that Rush is a boob. What about you?!
People online always gripe about "language/grammar/spelling/typing" when they've lost an argument.
Last point is, where else would we get someone to supply us with good jokes about the ridiculous things he says? Only Rush can be that insensative and stupid. Must be the drugs. Has he been tested lately?
I really think the hate towards Rush, and the derogatory descriptions of his fan base, is all a bunch of sour grapes. Liberals and Progressives always become angry and venomous toward those who disagree and challenge their worldview. What makes them even more hateful is that Conservative talk-radio and commentators are generally more popular and get better ratings than their Liberal and Progressive counterparts. That people have the audacity to have a different worldview (something deeper than mere opinion) is intolerable for them, and they are compelled to try and take down the opposing points of view by demonizing the person, personal attacks, and name calling (something we see every night on the MSNBC evening lineup of commentators).
Chris:
On the BP Shakedown:
I have been the victim of a government shakedown in a foriegn country, I think I know a shakedown when I see one!!! Some questions I would like a "real journalist" such as yourself to ask the administration:
1. What was BP promised in return for the $20 billion "escrow fund"
2. What was BP threatend with if they refused?
3. Who will get thier claims paid first? My guess, Democrats who are willing to contribuite to Obama administration.
4.What steps are being taken to police fraudulant claims?
RUSH IS RIGHT!! That is why no one will stand up to him! If the Republicans in the House and Senate could only have the balls to do what Rush says we wouldn't be in this huge mess we are in now with Obama.
Chris:
Sorry to hear that the Republican base stands together and won't throw somebody under the bus so you can get more chills up your leg. Maybe if you beg and plead for another 45 days you finally find somebody. :(
Chris, Is this what you have become? SAD!!!!!!!! The reason no one has came on your show is because you are a nobody. Using Rush as a gimmick to get people listen to your pathetic show, tells the world how bad off you idiots at MSNBC are.
I have a challenge for you. Seems you're looking for a challenge. The challenge is for you to do your show without mentioning Rush, FOX, Sean, Glenn, Sarah, Michelle, President Bush or anyone associated with the Tea Party.
So Mr. Mouthpiece are you man enough to take a challenge.
Totally agree...almost word for word from my post.
Matthews is such a Lib lacky
Research the Braer Oil Spill (http://www.iosc.org/papers/00193.pdf). The UK shafted the US to pay for the clean-up of that oil spill to the tune of $65 million+ (at that time a fortune for one tanker). So years later, the UK (BP) comes over here in a much worst oil/environmental spill and what we apologize and tell them it is okay. That is very American! While we are at it we might as well apologized to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and any other foreign country. If this is the case, a whole lot of people owe the Dixie Chicks and apology! They did not do anything then that is not being done now. I am sorry for you. I will never take the side of a foreign country over my own. And I know there are places in this country I still cannot go for vacation because of “klan” country rules. But everyone has a right to think what they want and speak how they choose. That is our right as an American. Even Rush!! Do I dislike him …YES. Do I hate him…NO. Get your criticism right. He is making a living at the expense others misfortune or ridicule. His right.
Hello,
Rush Limbaugh is nothing but a racist redneck. I am just waiting for the tea Party folks to star wearing white hoods. The bottom line is, The President is Black. No matter how many excuses the Extreme Right will try to come up with , it is Racism..They hate the Fact Obama has them under his thumb. White kind of Monsters are they, it is really unbelievable the way they work against this country. *** I was thinking, a king sized bed sheat could be modified to fit over Rush Limbaugh's extremely large Head, don't forget to cut out a 12" hole for his mouth.
Chris, I forgot what time your show is on because I never watch it anymore. Haven't for years.
Your show is going nowhere fast, Chris. It's getting to the point that even though you use Rush to garner some attention, your show has been off for a few hours and you've received 14 comments so far.
Not even talking about Rush can save you Chris. Maybe CNN has something for you. We'll see.
This is my first time commenting on or reading this blog and I am very surprised at how many right leaning comments have been left...keep up the good work Chris it appears you do have an audience!
Hey Chris. Just finished watching a link to your program with Congressman Scalise from Rush Limbaugh's website. You don't think the Fed Gov. has never shaken down anyone or any company before. The American tax payer has been shaken down through our Social Security program. If the SS program was designed as a retirement fund for everyone that contributed to it than we should have enough money in it to cover when the contributor retires, right. From my understanding the SS program is bankrupt. How can that be? Could it be that the program $$'s has been used for other services than what it was designed for. That is a shake down and the BP money is a shake down too. If it is not a shake down than the 20 Billion should not be taxed (for the Goverment to get their hands on it) but we know it will be taxed. Thanks big brother for watching out for the "little guy".
Who has a larger audience, Rush or Chris ?
LOL. I agree reg. I also enjoy Palin's comedic value. She thought we chould call the Dutch in on the oil spill because they have experience plugging holes in dikes.
I'm still laughing about that one.
The Republican party is corrupt, and they will be voted out of office.
Limbaugh shows what drug abuse does to one's mind.
Mr. Maximovich: Love the invective. Classy argument. Any real facts in there, or are you just refusing to stand up to Chris?
...this must be the "Luntz's Dunces on Review" site...nothing but the regurgitated crude Heritage funded focus groups come up with. Then the message starts with the morning whine of el lushbo & ends with the beckbawl show...these people are dangerous...& stinking annoying. Ever buy any gold from their lone sponsors?
Contrary views are to be tolerated & at times, commended...but just plain bald faced innuendo does not cut it. They paint in broad strokes with colors not found in nature. The Religicans can keep the south.
