There’s a reason why Newt’s staying strong in this race, and that may be because he comes out fighting in the debates. We’ll deconstruct the former Speaker’s performance last night, including his right-off-the-bat rebuke of moderator John King. And Newt’s gaining in the latest polls. Can he defeat Romney in South Carolina? MSNBC Political Commentators Howard Fineman and Eugene Robinson join us tonight.
Next up: Mitt Romney is rich. We all know this. And his money, and his tax returns, have been in the spotlight lately. So how could he not have been prepared for the question he faced last night about whether he’d release his tax returns? We’re talking to MSNBC Political Analysts Chris Cillizza and David Corn tonight.
Newt’s ex-wife, Marianne Gingrich, is talking about her divorce from the former Speaker. Does it matter? Will it impact the race? The Washington Post’s James Grimaldi interviewed her, and he’ll talk about it tonight with Real Clear Politics’ Erin McPike.
Plus, we’re bringing you the best of Stephen Colbert and Herman Cain’s rally today in South Carolina, and we’re asking: What’s Colbert really up to in the Palmetto State? Salon's Steve Kornacki will weigh in.
And tomorrow night, MSNBC's live coverage of the South Carolina Primary begins at 6 PM Eastern. Join Chris, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, the Reverend Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, and Republican Strategist Steve Schmidt as they watch the returns come in!

Tonight on MSNBC coverage of the votes and turn out.
1. Hope you bring up how 90% of black voters in South Carolna are Dems I believe. They may be working at those poll headquarters but they are not voting
2. 20% of white voters in South Carolina are Dems
3. Why does Chris Matthews, Ed, Al Sharpton etc (not Rachel) keep repeating that Santorum won in Iowa when the votes from 8 precincts are missing. Why is that the Republican party and the MSM does not seem concerned about these missing votes
4. Institutionalized racism and classism that Newt seems to completely be playing into in South Carolina. That woman who stood up and said "Thank you Mr. Speaker for putting Juan Williams in his place" Newt gets a standing ovation for his ability to flip the script when it comes to his own behavior and blame others. Blame his commitment to the country for his affairs, blame the media, blame his exwife...blame blame and that crowd in South Carolina eats up his racist, classist, adulterous behavior as long as he invokes the name of Jesus while he spews this hypocrisy. And as Maddow has so clearly pointed out..people's private lives are their private lives except when they are bashing, trashing an elected President for his...what a disgusting, pig headed, vindictive person Gingrich is. Call that pig out Why is it that these alleged religious folks who are such hypocrites reject someone like Romney who has been devoted to his wife and family.
Chris get out of those studios and hotel rooms in Charleston. Get to one of those bus stops during a week day. Talk to the African American women going to clearn the houses of the rich white folk Talk about the income disparity in South Carolina. White kids in private schools. Who is working in those kitchens, (notice who has the wait persons jobs) what they are being paid, do they have health insurance, who is Boeing hiring, equity in education in that state. Look at those tourist magazines in your hotel rooms, who are in those advertisements (they do not even pretend that those rich coastal towns or golf courses are diverse) Dig in dude. South Carolina is filled with institutionalized racist and classist values and policies
In the last debate with Mr Romney, the turning point towards Mr Gingrich's victory was his righteous indignation .....
and watching it was deja vu all over again....
Don't remember what led to it but there was a similar moment in 1994 when Ted Kennedy said some thing to the effect of...The Kennedy family is not in public service for money ..that they had paid a very big price for it...
it made quite an impression on many folks... and probably a moment that turned the race around for Kennedy...
