Chris, I appreciate your desire to present a balnacd view, BUT you seem to have 2 righties on today. I want to tell you that I think the public cannot possibly accept the argument that religious persecutionists wish to promote.
Facts revel that the religious doctrines are alive and well, as they are joining forces to present themselves as VICTIMS. Yes, I read the Bible, there is some interpretation of the persecution in the name of Jesus is some king of GOAL.
There is no REAL evidence of THAT.
I do not disparage people that hold religious views as paramount, but these views must be reconciled with REALITY. OK, I accept that some think that the Religion is foremost, but I can see your (and others) desire to keep the compartmentalizing in force. I DO NOT think we can discount religion, but I tihnk we do have to reconcile religion and the secular VALID portion of our laws, as to cease discriminating against those that ARE PART of America, whether they are pf the Judeo Christian faith or NOT.
For a country with a huge debt and high unemployment, the politicians are not talking much about it... All we hear is about social issues (issues resolved by most developped countries about 30 years ago...): Abortion, contraception (!!), religion...
Do taxpayers (and electors) realize that their tax money is paying the politicians' salaries? It is costing a lot of money for addressing issues that are NOT priorities for a majority of people? The GOP-led house has passed more bills about social issues (particularly abortions) than bills about the economy.
That would make me very angry...
I wish you guys in the media show some backbone and stand up to your advertisers. For example the Republicans are using gas prices as an issue again despite the fact that the Oil and Gas companies in America export more of our O&G now than they actually sell to our own citizens. The argument that we absolutely need more sources of national oil are simply not valid except to make more profits for companies that are already the most profitable in the world. Additionally, if we want to reduce our budget why are we still giving tax breaks and subsidies (welfare, entitlements) to these O&G companies when they are making so much money and paying so little in taxes while exporting so much to foreign countries?
One more thing no one has mentioned. This season the demand for gas is actually way DOWN. That means prices should be down as well. However the O&G industry world wide has become accustomed to raising prices traditionally during this SEASON and so no one is questioning it. WE SHOULD. This is an ARTIFICIAL price adjustment. It is NOT ECONOMICALLY SOUND and based solely on greed. Then again since Reagan and the Neo-Con con game involving the forcing of western countries to accept the ridiculous supply-side, trickle-down, theory of economics, real theories, of sound, real scientific theories of economics haven't been used by western democracies which is why we are in the situation we are in now. Throw the Republicans out and maybe the Dem's will put real world, real scientific Keynesian Theory Economics back into practice and pull our bacon out of the fire.
